The Psychiatry Residency Program has a research portfolio that includes clinical, epidemiological and educational research studies. We require that residents participate in a scholarly activity project in order to familiarize them with the challenges of research and to foster an appreciation of what goes into answering a clinical question.
During the second year of the Research in Psychiatry Seminars, one of the goals is to assist residents in getting started on their project. Some residents do individual projects of their choosing, and others work collaboratively with other residents and faculty with the goal of either publishing or making a formal presentation of their work at a local or national meeting. The Psychiatry Residency Program actively participates in the annual Kalamazoo Community Medical Health and Sciences Research Day.
