Faculty of the Department of Anethesiology provide care for patients in a wide range of settings including Borgess Medical Center, Bronson Methodist Hospital, Bronson Lakeview Hospital, Pennock Hosptial, West Michigan Cancer Center, as well as free-standing ambulatory surgery centers and pain clinics. The department includes approximately thirty specialty-trained, board-certified anesthesiologists who participate in the instruction of medical students and residents.
Faculty of the Department of Anesthesiology may work independently or more commonly as part of anesthesia care teams composed of anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, physician assistants, residents, and students. The department provides a diverse environment for learning about anesthesiology.
Medical education in anesthesiology and pain management is integrated in the Foundations of Medicine curriculum. Electives in anesthesiology are available for medical students in the first two years (one week) as well as the fourth year (two or four weeks).
