The Department of Medicine provides comprehensive care for adults of all ages. We emphasize preventative medicine for all of our patients but also actively manage patients with many complex and active illnesses on a long term basis. The Department includes more than 20 employed physicians and healthcare providers as well as approximately 80 community physicians who participate in our teaching and research programs.
Among our employed faculty, we provide care in the fields of general internal medicine, infectious disease, endocrinology, gynecology and dermatology. Our employed faculty have special expertise in preventative health care, occupational health and back pain, HIV medicine, management of diabetes mellitus and thyroid disease. We have a full time social worker and dietician in our department as well so that we can provide optimal care for the social, mental and dietary needs of our patients. Our community faculty offer care in all of the fields of sub-specialty internal medicine.
At the WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine Clinics on the Oakland Drive Campus, the Department of Medicine provides outpatient services in the General Internal Medicine, Medicine/Pediatrics, Infectious Disease, Endocrinology, Gynecology and Dermatology Clinics. Our faculty see approximately 14,000 patient visits each year. The clinical faculty are supported by skilled nurses as well as a full time social worker and a dietician. The Internal Medicine Clinic has achieved national recognition as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) designation through the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and The Joint Commission (TJC). The WMU School of Medicine Primary Care Clinics are the only residency training based PCMH clinics in the United States. Our physicians have privileges at both Borgess Medical Center and at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Patients may make an appointment to see one of our physician faculty by calling 269-337-6300 or through a link to our clinic website.
