Prescriptions, Referrals and Authorizations

Prescriptions

Always bring a list of or the bottles of any medications, including over-the-counter medicines and herbal supplements, you are taking to your visit. Be sure to ask for prescription refills while you are at our clinic so you do not run out of medication. If you call later for refills, it may take three business days to get the prescription. We will send your prescriptions to your pharmacy electronically. Controlled narcotic substances and ADHD or ADD medicines need paper prescription. You can pick you your prescription from our clinic. We do not give prescriptions for new medicine, antibiotics or pain medicine over the phone. We need to see you in the clinic before ordering these medications. You can request a prescription refill using your MyChart account.

If you receive care from a provider outside our clinic, please inform us if that provider has prescribed you with new medications. Your doctor or nurse will verify your current medications with you at each visit. You will also receive an updated list of medications at the end of each visit.

Referrals and Authorizations

Our Referrals Department works closely with your primary care doctor to ensure efficient and timely referrals for care. We will assist in scheduling services with other healthcare providers and will assist your doctor with authorization for services, when required by your insurance.

If you need a referral or authorization from our clinic to see another kind of doctor or to have a procedure, please schedule an appointment with your primary care doctor. We can let your insurance company know why you need to have this appointment. It is important for you to see us before your visit with a specialist. We cannot authorize specialist visits that have already happened. We can help you get the best benefit from your insurance plan. If you do not get approval before your appointment, you may have to pay for the visit yourself.
