Core Equipment

The WMed Equipment Core provides a wide variety of state-of-the-art equipment. A skilled staff scientist provides help with instrument setup and operation. Training is available to enable investigators and their staff to run the instruments themselves.

CTL ELISPOT Reader

This plate reader is capable of performing basic and double-color spot counting. In addition, it can detect up to 8 fluorescent colors and performs automated cell counts. 

Bio-Rad ChemiDoc System

This system is used for digital imaging of western blots developed with ECL or fluorescent reagents in the red, green, and blue spectrum.

BioTek Synergy Neo2 Multi-Mode Plate Reader

The Neo2 has a monochromator-base UV-Vis absorbance detection system. In addition, micro-volume quantification is fast and easy with the Take3 Micro-Volume plates. It is also capable of measuring fluorescence intensity, luminescence, fluorescence polarization, and time-resolved fluorescence. Its read methods include endpoint, kinetic, spectral scanning, and well area scanning.

BioTek 405 LS Plate Washer

The 405 LS Microplate Washer has built-in automated buffer switching and "quick-change" manifold designs. This plate washer can wash both 96 and 384 well microplates. It is also equipped with the Biostack plate loader.

Biosafety Level 2 Core

The BL2 Core provides training and instrumentation for WMed investigators. Researchers can access the BL2 Core by undergoing safety training and certification. The core resides in a separate dedicated room with all equipment contained therein.

Dedicated BL2 equipment includes:
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • 2 Class II tissue culture biosafety cabinets
  • 3 Centrifuges
  • 2 CO2 incubators
  • Microbiological incubator
  • Inverted microscope
  • inverted fluorescence microscope
  • Cell counter
  • Freezers (-80°C, -20°C) and a 4°C refrigerator

Tissue Culture Core

The tissue culture core provides a common space for tissue culture needs.

The tissue culture core facility will provide the following equipment:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • 4 Class II tissue culture biosafety cabinets
  • 3 Centrifuges
  • 1 CO2 incubator per lab
  • Shared tri-gas incubator
  • Inverted microscope
  • Cell counter
  • 2 Water baths
  • Freezers (-20°C) and a refrigerator (4°C)
