On May 12, 2018, a Community Open House Celebration honored the hundreds of people from across the Southwest Michigan community who have been involved in bringing the dream of our new medical school to life.
More than 300 people attended the event, which was held at WMed’s W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus in downtown Kalamazoo. The open house was was a chance to celebrate the 48 students in the inaugural Class of 2018 and acknowledge the community support that has been pivotal to the success of WMed and our students.
Dr. Hal B. Jenson, the medical school’s founding dean, delivered brief remarks at the event.
“This event today and the graduation of our inaugural class of medical students mark the final milestones in the development of Kalamazoo’s new medical school,” Dr. Jenson said. “Our inaugural commencement ceremony will mark the end of our “firsts” as the medical school itself graduates from being a new medical school.”
