Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine
My reasons for choosing WMed as my residency landing place were many. Since I have four children, my wife and I spent many hours checking out residency locations across the country where there were good schools, where the cost of living was affordable, and where there were family activities to do in the area, among other essential criteria. On paper there were only a dozen or so residencies that met our initial criteria including WMed (Kalamazoo/Portage). Luckily for me, I also had the opportunity to do a rotation on the Pediatric floor at Bronson Methodist Hospital for a month. During that month I could see the camaraderie and cooperation that the residents, nurses, and attendings shared. The medical team valued me as a team player and allowed me to improve each day through teaching and encouragement. I ended each day feeling extremely tired but happy. I guess you could say I learned that happiness in residency, which met my most important criteria, was definitely attainable here. There is no doubt that I made the right choice for my family and I by coming to WMed.
