Residency is the time when young physicians obtain the fundamentals that we will use for the rest of our career. As someone who strives to be confident in my clinical knowledge and skills, I knew the importance of an excellent residency program to achieve these goals. What appealed to me most about WMed’s pediatric residency program was Bronson Children's Hospital’s vast catchment area in Ssouthwest Michigan. This was extremely important to me because I knew that it meant I would be exposed to more of a patient population, which in turn meant I would be able to learn more from each patient. I also felt that the faculty was made up of teachers that were just as eager to teach as the residents were eager to learn. I immediately felt that this is a program that will enable me to be a confident physician and equip me with the skill set needed to be successful. With the newly affiliated medical school, I believe I am in a program that will open countless doors for me and will allow me to be a competitive candidate when applying for fellowships.
Kalamazoo has become home because of my fellow residents who have become family in such a short amount of time. I am excited to embark on my three-year journey with my amazing colleagues!
