As a new medical school, every day brings a first and a reason for celebration. On Sunday, August 17 we welcomed our inaugural class of medical students and their families at an Open House the evening before the first day of classes. This exceptional group of students was selected from an applicant pool of more than 3,500. The inaugural class has 24 women and 30 men from 14 states, including 23 students from Michigan and 15 from California. They represent 35 colleges and universities from across the country. Three students are graduates of Western Michigan University and two are from Kalamazoo College. Another member of the class attended college as a Kalamazoo Promise scholarship recipient. The students are quickly making the medical education facility on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus their new home. Our new 350,000 square foot facility was designed to support the delivery of our team-based curriculum and to provide an environment conducive to medical student learning. If you would like to meet the students and tour the facility please plan to attend our medical school grand opening celebration on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Click here to register by September 1. Or you can drop by the Community Open House on Saturday, September 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. No RSVP is required.
The medical school team is committed to our mission to educate and inspire lifelong learners to be exceptional clinicians, leaders, educators, advocates, and researchers of tomorrow. Thank you for your continued engagement, support, and interest in Kalamazoo’s new medical school.
