The Office of Development and Alumni Affairs proudly sponsors a broad spectrum of programs and activities aimed at connecting and supporting our faculty, staff, alumni, students, residents, and friends of the medical school. We also supervise and direct the planning and coordination of fundraising events involving selected student/alumni affairs for the School of Medicine.

WMed Live: A First Decade Celebration – May 27, 2021
WMed celebrated its first 10 years of accomplishments and the retirement of Founding Dean Dr. Hal B. Jenson at its live virtual gala, WMed Live: A First Decade Celebration. The community also welcomed the new dean of WMed, Dr. Paula M. Termuhlen, during this special event.
Southwest Michigan First Chamber Connect – June 9, 2021
WMed hosted the Southwest Michigan First Chamber Connect on June 9, 2021. Over 100 community business leaders enjoyed an evening of conversation and networking at WMed's W.E. White Coat Sponsorship Program – Fall 2021
Friends of WMed are invited to serve as a white coat sponsor to support a WMed student as they begin their medical education and their journey to become a physician. Sponsoring an entering medical student for their white coat ceremony often results in a special bond between the donor and student.

Hanson Society Alumni Day - October 9, 2021
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery hosted the fourth annual Hanson Society Alumni Day on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the WMed W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus. Orthopaedic Surgery faculty, residents, and alumni gathered to hear an academic presentation from Dr. Rosemary T. Shultz, MD, a 1991 graduate of the Michigan State University Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies Orthopaedic Residency Program. Additional items on the agenda were special case presentations, a tour of WMed's main campus as well as an optional WMU Bronco football game. Those in attendance were welcomed to the medical school by Dr. Keith Kenter, chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, current Orthopaedic residents and faculty along with the medical school's Office of Development and Alumni Affairs.
Donor Appreciation Luncheon – November 11, 2021
The Donor Appreciation Luncheon was a special gathering to celebrate all of the generous support the medical school has received throughout the fiscal year. Guests enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving-themed meal and a brief program delivered by Dean Termuhlen, community members, and students. The keynote address for the luncheon was delivered by four current medical student scholars who spoke of their journey which led them to attend medical school at WMed. Each student expressed words of gratitude for the donors who generously supported scholarships, which made their medical education more affordable.

Dean’s Circle members were invited to a dessert and champagne reception at Susan and David Thomses home on Sunday, December 5, 2021. Guests enjoyed a WMU pianist play as they listened to a light program about planned giving options, the White Coat Sponsorship Program, and other exciting new activities underway at WMed. The Office of Development and Alumni Affairs will host regularly-scheduled guided tours of the state-of-the-art facility at the W.E. Match Day Congratulations – Spring 2022
Match Day is an annual event that marks the day our graduating medical students learn their residency destinations. Friends of WMed can support the next generation of physicians in two ways: Send a congratulatory message to graduating students or make a gift in their honor.
Donor Luncheon with Medical School Scholars
Donors of the WMed Catalyst Scholarship Program are invited to attend a private luncheon with the student scholars they sponsored through the 2022 Catalyst Scholarship Campaign. Attendees will enjoy a lively networking event with other Southwest Michigan’s business, civic, and philanthropic leaders as they get to know students in the medical degree programs at WMed. Body Donation Program
Individuals may choose to donate their body to WMed to be used in the advancement of medical science, teaching, and study.
